Random folder found on external hard disk?

So recently I discovered a file folder I didn't create on my external hard drive. in fact this the second time i found a file folder i did not create, i originally deleted the first since i didnt know what it was.

the folder name is like: oLtawA8RI6p8O

it has that same number of digits/letters in that kind of order.

the file folder is empty, 0 bytes and has a time stamp when it was created but no date. the time seems to be the same - 12:00am.

the first file folder i deleted was started at the same time i believe - 12:00am but not the same day.

the folder keeps showing up in the same folder on my external hard drive. i can access the folder but it is empty.

    any ideas?

edit: i realize whenever i delete the folder it just generates another one with a different name and symbols. immediately. that happened the first time im guessing i just didnt realize it. the first folder was created in a sub-folder within another folder. the second file was created in a folder that has the sub-folder. if that makes sense.

    what is this?

not lately no. also i deleted the folders again, they reappeared. then one stayed deleted but the other remained. yes i own antivirus software. i deleted the second one, and now they havent returned.

also, i wasnt able to safely remove my external hard drive. i got an error saying some about generic volume in use. i removed it anyways, then inserted it again. then i was able to remove it safely.

this is the first time i have gotten that error however.

    the folder isnt shared either.

im betting the folders are going to reappear again. what is the deal?

    Hi ExternalHard,

I have one also, basically it's just a user folder, the same as in you desktop under user you will see a folder with random letters and numbers. Just encyrpted user name. See if you right click on the folder and go to owner. It will be from another pc that you have been at.

but ive never been at another PC. nothing on my computer is shared. is your folder having the same letters and numbers? remember this is only in my external drive, in the same sub-folders, again and again.

    Here you can see mine

Basically it's just from when you don't remove the device correctly. Which i didnt once and now everytime i click remove safely it says its been used. So try deleting it and then keep removing it safely

you have users on your external?? the letters on mind are different. if you delete yours does a new one appear, in the same folder, with different letters and numbers?

Have just been doing some research on it a bit more. Because since i removed it without safely removing device. That folder has been there. But I have had a look and there all microsoft, some people say it's been used as cache and also updates. I just keep deleting mine. But they come back. But they are no harm. Did all scans on this and all clear.

EDIT: Did you say it reappears within a folder on your HD?
