Hang on Bootup, Black screen w/ movable mouse, caused by power service

Thanks for the suggestions. Audio driver and ethernet drivers upgraded, no change. BIOS is already latest version.

Try a dismantle .... at least a partial dismantle.
Open the computer. Remove the Sata and power cables from both the ends. Clean all the ends with soft cotton cloth. Remove the RAM modules. Clean the edges of RAMs similarly. Seat them back.

Now try to boot and see how it works.

No luck. I don't think it's hardware. Like I said, it worked with two fresh windows installs until an update was installed

which show how to establish a Clean Boot to get startup freeloaders off of Win7's back, check the logs, utilize System resources, test hardware, etc.

Didn't have much luck with those steps. I couldn't find anything relevant in the logs

Look late in here but when Arc said to clean the RAM contacts as a matter of course I always clean the slots too. That goes for the other cards as well could be crud pushed into them.

Top clean I just cut a an inch strip of old credit card round the corners off so they do not catch in the slot contacts and then put a piece of LINT FREE cloth like a piece of the microweave glass cleaning cloth over the end of the strip - dampen it VERY lightly with an alcohol (NOT GROG) and GENTLY swipe along the slots.

As an afterthought have you got what looks to me like two sound cards?? If so try with one out then do the same with the other and try putting them back in different slots than they were in (repeat slot out and swap). So C(ard)1 in slot 1 then in slot 2 then C2 in slot 1 and then slot 2. Then just put in as reverse as is now.

Temps are all ok I suppose??

I really don't think it is hardware. Temps are fine. Absolutely no other issues. Problem doesn't happen immediately after a fresh re-install, until after all the windows updates are done.

The two sound cards would be - onboard sound & HDMI audio out. Using HDMI audio out to my surround sound reciever. But the problem existed before I used HDMI audio out.

Look I know you are probably sick to death of fresh installs but you need to track down that update that you mention.

Suppose there is nothing showing up in event viewer that relates to the problem start up time / date?

The alternative is to get a dedicated sound card maybe the on board is going south?

Cheap enough to try mine are all fixed with Asus Xonar DG's and have never had a problem and I don't like on board stuff in any case.
The Xonar series I find just fantastic stuff and I drive a 5:1 Logitec Z506 off the DG ones in one of my machines and they have up to 7:1 system capabilities in the GUI. https://www.asus.com/Sound_Cards_and...ters/Xonar_DX/ is top end $85 out here.:)

Many times this black screen issue IS a hardware problem...somewhere, hard to track. It would be a good idea to do the cleaning suggested and at the same time make sure everything is fully seated. Many have solved an issue by also pulling all power connectors and replacing them fully.
A friend had a GPU aux connector that looked OK, but was 1/64" from being connected.
