I would think it`s got something to do with power saving, but you`re plugged in right ?

sorry for the delay , yep derek got it right,
the snip of the camera icon was referring to splash pro, its very simple to use has loads of nice features and even has a frame seek along the progress bar the same as you tube does when you hover on the progress bar.
if an audio is slightly out of sync you can just move a slider in the audio tab back or forward depending on the sync adjustment needed.
trust me guys its not often i shout the praises of one software over another,
i was a diehard WMC user for years and after i used splash pro as a trial i never went back.
if nothing else give it a try. you wont be disappointed and you may even be pleasantly surprised.
    heres some info about it
did i mention it plays back movies in better quality than other similar player.

It is a one-time pay or do they nag you to renew it?

    Memory?

Could it be a memory issue?
Maybe something weird is happening when you run VLC and your memory is being "chewed up".

My friend has a custom built gaming laptop (even though he's not a gamer) which has 16GB of RAM.
He installed a RAM Disc program and set it to 8GB.
His laptop kept dropping into Windows Basic theme after that.
I suspect that he hadn't left enough memory for his laptop's hardware.

Hmm, how could that be with 8GB of RAM. My laptop has only 6GB of RAM and the phenomenon does not occur.
