    Explorer constant crashes; Not Restarting.

My explorer crashes from time to time, just randomly. Its not forced by anything I guess, it even happens if I close the lid of my laptop and open it again. It's just arbitrary. If i start "explorer.exe" or "explorer" from the task manager, nothing happens, explorer.exe flashes for a second in the processes tab and then disappears. I am attaching some dump file which I had created using this link (5th post by auggy, telling to create a registry file)

I dont have the software to go through the dump files, so please help me find a solution.
I am in no position to do a reinstall of Windows (win 7 x64)

Thanks. I'll have a look at these after dinner.

In the meantime, could you do the following for me?

    1. Download and save this tool to your desktop:
    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

    2. Run the tool, and then click 'Copy' - ignore any errors if they appear

    3. Use CTRL+V to paste the unedited results of the validation tool here in your next reply

That looks OK. But you don't have any DMP files in your SF ZIP attachment.

Check to see that minidumps are enabled:

I had used the tutorial, as I have a 4GB RAM, I used the paging size as 4096-5000 MB for C: drive and then selected the complete memory dump. Is there something wrong? (pls see screenshots)

Does the initial files that I had uploaded "crashdumps.zip" help? I had linked the page that I had used as a tutorial.

I had a doubt. I am not getting any BSOD, its just a random crash of explorer. The taskbar disappears and (sometimes) comes back but without the battery, network, sound options in the system tray. So, without BSOD are there any minidump files being created?

Mmm. OK. Perhaps its just a system corruption? Lets try this:

    1. Click Start
    2. In the search box, type cmd
    3. In the list that appears, right-click on cmd.exe and choose Run as administrator
    4. In the command window that opens, type sfc /scannow and hit enter.

Report the content of the output window once it finishes.
