RefCount actually didn't exist in the profile list until I created it yesterday, but the State was 4 and I changed that to 0 at the same time. It didn't help.

How about going to C:\Users Folder . Renaming the user name to " username.old " . Then recreate the name inside Control Panel's User Account

As I mentioned in my first post, I can't access the control panel at all, nor can I get into windows explorer or most other things that are close to being programs. I can mostly only do things through the command prompt and some system processes (such as regedit) will still work. I can try to rename the folder through cmd and see if that does anything.

And trying to rename it tells me that access is denied. It is an administrator-enabled cmd prompt.

Ren "c:\users\Profile" "Profile.old"

2 questions. First, if I went into regedit and just deleted the one profilelist key in there (if it would even let me) and restarted the computer, what would likely happen?

Second, would retrying a repair install likely do anything?
