How to load your back up OS into dual booting

    Hi

Here is my situation today. I'm going to full out the Windows 7 OS from other drive. There are two drives in a desktop PC each drives has an OS. The other OS installed is Windows 8 which be in a default with dual booting OS in one drive.

It just started to back up for Windows 7 and placed it in a partition available in a hard drive where the windows 8 is installed. It came across into my mind when I plan to install the Windows XP for the second hard drive resulting a triple booting. To describe, hard drive 1 will have two OS (windows 8 and Windows 7) and hard drive 2 only Windows XP.

Please post back a screenshot of your Disk Management - Post a Screen Capture Image.

Tell us what is on each partition and exactly what you would like it to look like when you are done. We will give you the steps.

Hi Greg, after dual booting from Disk 0 from the picture above, I'm going to try to install XP in Disk 1 resulting triple boot OS in all.

Win7 backup imaging really isn't flexible enough to reimage to a partition you choose on Disk0, if that's what you want. I'm only guessing here because you didn't explain it as I asked you to do. Obviously saving a backup to a partition is not the same as Dual Booting the OS you backed up.

If you want to reimage Win7 to another partition I'd use a cloning or imaging app that has more flexibility like free Macrium - Image your system. Another excellent choice which can clone or image is Acronis which offers a free version if you have either a WD or Seagate HD in the mix - the Manual is on the downloads page. Make sure when you reimage or clone Win7 you choose to make the System Reserved partition System Active and on a Primary partition so it will boot, and to copy MBR and track0. You must also set Disk0 as first HD to boot in BIOS setup, since Disk1 currently holds the System boot files for both OS's. If it fails to boot then run Startup Repair - Run up to 3 Separate Times. You can add Win8 to a Dual Boot menu using EasyBCD (click Download - no Name or Email required).

Honestly if I was you I would Clean Install Windows 7 to the 2nd partition on the HD to get it in the preferred left hand lower address for faster disk reads. During install it will configure a dual Boot with Win8 placing its boot files on the WIn7 partition which is already marked Active for that purpose.

Once you have Win7/Win8 dual Booting unplug Disk0, boot the XP installer, delete System Reserved and C on Disk1, create and full format the XP partition there. If the XP CD doesn't see the HD partitions when you boot in or it Bluescreens, you may need SATA Drivers - Slipstream into Windows XP CD.

It's easier to virtualize XP now in Win7 or Win8 since it will hardly install on newer hardware and almost all XP program scan be made to run on Win7 with Compatibility Mode.

Look over the information I've provided and ask back any questions needed. If you can actuallyl explain exactly what you want to do, we will give you the steps as we have for countless thousands of others.

Your guessed is precise to my uncertainty. What i was thought for back up imaging is it will do the rest through system repair disc since back up imaging needs it in order to restore the OS to a different hard drive..

This is what i want to do for this PC, I'm prepared to used Windows 8 as default for placing sensitive informations, viewing personal files, or etc., and can use windows 7 too to run programs for educational purposes. And the XP is dedicate to a program PLC.

Before this, I tried to installed the XP in one drive with two OS in each partition but after the xp installed the two OS is gone makes XP boot always. Later, I have found the solution in order to boot, you have to install the three OS in sequence which i choose not.

For the time being I'm going to search the information you've provided. It makes me shines on what to do today!
I acknowledge with thanks for your countless support and of others around the globe.

You only needed to ask what to do when you installed XP and it stopped booting the other OS's. We deal with this every day here.

In that case you restart Win7 by marking its partition Active, then running Startup Repair - Run up to 3 Separate Times.

You can then install EasyBCD to add XP and if there is a third OS, add it.

Of course if you install to another HD you don't need to add it to the Boot Menu or do repairs after XP install since you can just unplug the other hDs during install and it will not interfere with any other OS. You'd then boot them via the BIOS Boot Menu key.
