Only Wallpaper on startup and no access to Ctrl+Alt+Del

    Hi,
I've recently inherited a computer from my old man that only shows the wallpaper on startup and when i hit Ctrl+Alt+Del i'm presented with a black screen.

I have access to safe mode where i have been doing some poking around but being a Mac user for most of my life i'm not really sure what i'm doing.

Things i have tried so far include:
    • Disabling non-microsoft programs that run at startup
    • Looking in device manager to see if there are any issues but everything seems to be ok

Its a Windows 7 Home Premium Version 6.1 if that helps.

I should also mention that I can't connect to to the Internet as there is no Wireless card and my rooter is on the other side of the house. It was working fine when my dad had it so i'm ruling out any Malware/Virus problems.

Any other tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to Seven Forums chrisl57. Give us as much info on the PC as you can it's helpful. Model#, etc. You might try booting to the Advanced Boot options and see if you can run the Startup Repair or even the Last Know Good Configuration.

    Advanced Boot Options

Do you have the installation disk?

Hi chrisl57 and welcome to Seven Forums.

As "A Guy" here said we will need more on the system specs to help you out. Also you said your "old man" had it connected to the internet via wireless? But you cannot?

Have you made any changes to the pc since you have got it such as updates, downloads, drivers etc?

All information will be helpful to us.
