hi! benjy206. I do tinker a lot.Have installed variouse new prog's such as gimp, audacity, krystal, free youtube to mp3 & a usb mic. not knowingly anything that needed drivers, or anything to do with messageing.left over files for stronghold online backup are said to be the culprit but i've never had this programme. if it comes to it i will just reinstall w7

Basically it is from a program you have download here is how you can remove the problem. How to Stop 'SOS.Messaging has stopped working' Error - Tee Support Blog

I would advise this is very advanced so I would not do it if you are not up to it.

       Note
Do not do a system restore

Before you attempt the steps benjy206 linked to, try a scan with AdwCleaner In Step 2, click on search instead and post the text file generated in your next reply. Screenshots and Files - Upload and Post in Seven Forums

Those steps in the link are asking to delete some system files.

OK you do have a few tool bars and downloader programs. As benjy206 said delete them. How to do this, run the AdwCleaner again only this time click the Delete button and reboot when requested. Post the TEXT file that is generated afterwards.
