Sometimes you have to install the HP wireless manager crapware in order to turn it off in its Preferences so you can use Win7's superior wireless manager from the bottom-right System tray.

But first try rightclicking the System Tray Network connection icon to Troubleshoot, choosing wireless adapter. If that doesn't work correctly, go into Control Panel>Network/Sharing Center>Change adapter settings to rightclick on Wireless adapter to Troubleshoot. If it doesn't appear install its driver from the HP Support Downlloads webpage. Driver Install - Device Manager

What color is the wireless light?
The wireless light indicates the overall power state of your wireless devices, not the status of
individual devices. If the wireless light is white, at least one wireless device is on. If the wireless light
is amber, all wireless devices are off.
What happens if you press F12?
f12 Turns the wireless feature on or off.
Have you checked the status of the wireless network adapter in Device Manager?
