Unable to wake up computer, rebooted and "Resuming Windows"

Hello,

I have a custom-built PC using Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. After I come home at night or get up in the morning while leaving my computer on during the day or night (i.e., computer has been on and idle for ~8hrs), I find that the computer has entered some sort of sleep mode from which I cannot awaken it. I moved the mouse, pressed every key on the keyboard (keyboard LED came on when I did that), and I pressed the power button as well. Eventually I had to switch off the power supply. Upon reboot it says "Resuming Windows..."

I thought I had turned off hibernation (Set it to Hibernate After: Never)
This is super annoying.

Anyone know how I can prevent this in the future?

Turn off hibernation, turn off sleep. Shut down the pc manually.

Some MB`s are funny like that. Has yours always behaved this way or is it something new ?

My XFX board behaved like that, my new MSI board goes into sleep and I just push the power button and bam, my computer is back up in 3 seconds, I love it.

I have a Sabertooth 990FX. I can't remember when it started doing this. Been doing it a while. I'm just fed up. When I got this, it was one of the top mobos out there with AMD socket...

I have now switched to high performance power management mode in Windows, and I turned off any option to go to sleep or turn off the hard disks.

Hello JT, and welcome to Seven Forums.

In addition, you might see if disabling hibernate completely may help. Afterwards, see how it works when waking the PC up from sleep.

Also check bios to see if there is a setting to allow mouse and kb to wake computer. I have one that this changes in the bios sometimes.

I personally would troubleshoot to find out why Sleep is not working correctly, which should also solve the Hibernate problem: Sleep Mode Problems - Vista Forums

If updating the Display driver and trying the steps in the blue link tutorial above don't resolve it then you can almost always pinpoint the problem by Gathering a Startup, Shutdown, Sleep, Hibernate, or Reboot Trace - Windows 7 Forums.

I hate to see Users not be able to enjoy the convenient Sleep and Hibernate functions which are perfected in Win7, and allow you to walk away from your PC without worrying about leaving work out whether you come back in 45 minutes or 45 days. I set all of my installs to 20 Display, 30 Sleep and 60 Hibernate with Hybrid Sleep to write Sleep to HD. Many Users have been wrongly told this is undesireable but those who try it all love these features and quickly won't do without them - easily a Best Practice for Win7.
