Reboot help

hello, iv had an acer aspire for 2 years now, and it has been a nightmare. The HDD failed within 3 months of having it, then at the 7 month mark the HDD and the software failed. I sent it back to acer both times and they sorted the problem out. Now it is out of warranty. It was ok until lately. It has started rebooting on start-up and the mouse pad stops working. I bought a usb mouse and that works better. I bought this with windows 7 installed, and when i turn the button on, some code pops up and i have to press F8 to set it to the last good configuration. As i'm at university doing an I.T degree i'm guessing that my software playing up as my computer is slow, it won't defrag, my Google chrome doesn't load anything and my internet explorer is slow. My CPU usage keeps spiking at 100% even when i'm ending programs that currently run. Even though I do a degree in I.T I don't learn computer maintenance unfortunately. Iv backed my stuff so im thinking of resetting back to factory settings, and re installing the windows 7. Should I do that or is it best to take to a professional? I have got up-to-date anti-virus software and my firewall is on. I also cannot use firefox as when I try and download it, it always gives me a message saying it is corrupt and I cannot use it. Please help!

If this is still the bloated Acer preinstall then that's a corrupt install to begin with, larded with bloatware and useless duplicate utilities that throttle and interfere with Win7.

I would make my Recovery Disks and wipe the HD to do the suggested Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

I had to take it to a professional as it woudn't even turn on He said that I had a virus and had to take my hardrive out and format it as the information to format it was corrupt as it wouldn't let me reset to factory settings. He re installed windows and everything worked fine. This is until I got home and 131 windows updates tried to install. The process made my laptop painfully slow which meant I couldn't do anything. I knocked it off as it got stuck and froze o one update. I turned it o this morning and it started rebooting again I system restored it and it said that the updates had failed to configure. After this it turned on fine and everything was working fast and good. Now i was watching bbc iplayer on full screen and it switched to small screen all of a sudden, now my browsers wont let me add any tabs, i can't write a status on my own Facebook, and the mouse wont work. Exactly the same problems as I had before. Now I have new information that allows a complete system restore I'm thinking of doing it and seeing if that works. He also said that i had a virus on my external hardrive where all my stuff i backed up. I used 5 different virus checks to check that and my computer but nothing was found. I just don't know what to do, this is so depressing as I havn't got enough money for a new one. This has already cost me £40.

If you have that many updates, I recommend to install them in small batches of 4 or 5. Update failures happen very often when you try to install a large amount of updates in one setting. Just work thru the list top down. If there are updates for subsystems such as office, you can include a few of those each time.

I know that is tedious, but better than a complete failure.

I second this. I think we have all learned the hard way.

Also Windows Update will scan your hardware and sometimes download the proper drivers for you, so making sure everything is installed and up to date might resolve your mouse and other small issues.
