    Duplicate entries in Windows Boot Manager

    I had two parallel installations of Win7. I formated the partition of one of them. I still had another entry in the Windows Boot Manager when system started up, but if I chose it it booted the Windows from the partition which I left intact. So now I have two entries booting the same installation Windows. How can I get remove one of them?

    Here are the boot settings:

    Press the Start button then type msconfig in the search box and press enter. Go to the boot tab and delete the unwanted entry (if there's any). I hope that worked. :)

    I see 2 entries in msconfig, but cannot delete any of them. I guess because they are considered as current OS.

    EasyBCD shows only one entry in "Edit boot menu" section

    I found VistaBootPro very easy to use. I believe this link is to the old free version. They are charging about $10 for the latest. I used the free when I added XP to my Vista machine. It should work fine:

    It's pretty much the same as EasyBCD. I fixed my problem by removing the only visible entry in VistaBootPro (same as in EasyBCD screenshot above). Then restarted and recovered using Windows installation disc. Now I'm back to single entry.

    In the command prompt, type bcdedit and press enter. (see screenshot below)

    Note
    Windows 8 has identifier {current} and Windows 7 identifier is {08ea7340-743c-11e1-a16b-000c29ebef34}
    Look at displayorder the Windows 7 identifier is repeated. This will show up on boot menu.
    To fix that, type:
    bcdedit /displayorder {current} {08ea7340-743c-11e1-a16b-000c29ebef34}

    So each OS is listed once.
    That's it.
