Reinstall win 7 with other Windows OS disk?

No you just have to download the correct version of win 7. No need to mount anything. If the system you want to reinstall on has home premium then download home premium. If it has the pro or the ultimate versions then download that version. You can check that by finding the COA sticker on the system you are reinstalling on. If a notebook it might be inside the battery compartment. On a desktop it is someplace on the outside of the case.

Also once you download the correct iso file all you have to do is burn that to a dvd disc or create a usb thumb drive using either ISO to USB or the Windows USB download tool.
Doing either of those things does not affect the computer used to make either the dvd or the usb thumb drive.

Sorry to say but maybe you should ask someone that is more computer literate than yourself to help you with this task.

The version of Windows that was pre installed on your PC can be seen on the COA sticker that you will find on your case. This is where you will find your licence key for this version. Then do yourself a favour and do a clean install and follow this ;

Ok thanks I downloaded the 32 bit one at boards.ie - View Single Post - Reinstall with borrowed disk I do not know what version of seven they have only it is 32 bit I need to run eic fg to allow them choose version. However i have to run it on my pc to make sure the final product has the choice. Do i not need to mount it to run eic fg?

thats ok but i want to learn myself too and am doing it as a favour surprise. I find the iso very hard to understand

An easy way to do this is to use the Windows 7 DVD Download Tool to make a bootable USB thumb drive. Then just delete the ei.cfg file on the thumb drive. That will make the thumb drive a universal installer.

The other way to do it is to run the utility linked to above on the ISO file. Then burn the ISO to a DVD.

Either way you do it you still have to know what version to install. The product key on the COA sticker will only work for the version stated on the sticker. You can't install Ultimate and then try to enter a Home Premium key, it will be rejected.

Fair enough, that's cool. I only mentioned it because some people thought, oh cool, now I can install any version I want. It doesn't work that way and I wanted to save you from maybe doing the install twice.

I ran the utility above and burned iso to dvd. But testing on my own win 7 i get this on running the setup. When i burn the copy of the file I did not run the utility it goes to a install windows 7 screen. It is windows 7 Ultimate sp1. Making it universal seems to be cause of the error

What is the name of your version? Your profile says you have Home Premium 64 bit. Go here and Download the Home premium 64 bit iso in your own language and use the activation code on the sticker.
Nothing more needs to be checked. And your activation code only works for the version you have already. Why the heck are you removing the ei.cfg?
Don't try to install Ultimate with a Home Premium license, because it won't work.

The way I read it the OP is trying to make a disk for someone else. It's not known what version is on that PC. Making a universal disk would cover all the bases. Windows 7 isn't currently installed on that PC so you'd have to look at the COA sticker to see what version was originally installed.
