Work through the Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 which will normally reveal the cause.

If nothing is found then try Gathering a Startup, Shutdown, Sleep, Hibernate, or Reboot Trace - Windows 7 Forums

The MS updates seem to install/configure in two stages:

    • When you Restart/Shutdown
    • When your machine Restarts

Also, if you have any "dot NET" code/modules installed, they take ages to finish configuring when you log back in (after an update).

-Limit programs that run at Start up Limiting programs that run at startup might help you to fix your computer slowness problem

    -Click on the Start button

-Type msconfig into the text box then press Enter to locate msconfig You will be prompted system configuration page

-Switch to Startup tab and Remove the check from the box programs that you do not want to start up with the operating system

    -press Apply and OK button.

Hopefully it will increase the efficiency of you PC
