    My computer wont pass the welcome screen, Windows 7 64bit


    I made a new computer around 2 months ago and its been great, after turning it off today however, it will no longer get passed the welcome screen after i enter my password. I've tried with the wrong password it still doesn't work.

    The build is:
    3.2 Amd quad core processor
    8gb ddr3 ram
    Nividia gt 640 graphics card
    A 60gb ssd loaded with windows 7 64bit.

    As i said i was using it today and it was fine, all i did was play some games and facebook. After 30 mins of it being off, it now no longer works. Ive tried safe mode, it does the same. Ive tried start up repairs, the repair system thing and the use last known working settings. All have done nothing.

    I've got two solutions to try. First, get into your BIOS and select default settings and save/exit and let it reboot and check for issue. If that doesn't work, the turn off PC, turn off power supply, unplug PC from power source, open up PC side panel, look for CMOS battery and pull it out, keep it out for 2 minutes, then re-install battery, re-attach everything and then boot back up and check for issue.

    I had already tried the first suggestion, no success. But after a large wrestle with my computer i could only make the cmos battery sort of be unlocked, i couldnt take it out completely. Would leaving it slightly unlocked from its hold work or will i have the to continue wrestling with it

    Another possibility is to enable the Administrator account which is disabled by default in Windows 7. Since you can't boot, you can do it from a Windows 7 install DVD or Flash drive.

    If you do not have a Windows 7 installation DVD, you can download a legal copy with SP1 integrated from here:

    Make sure you get the same version you have, Home Premium, Pro or Ultimate and 32 or 64 bit. Note that Basic or Starter is not available.

    I recommend using ImgBurn at 4X speed (or the slowest available) to create the DVD from the downloaded .iso file.

    You can do this on any computer capable of burning a DVD.

    YOU MUST HAVE A VALID KEY TO INSTALL THIS .ISO. The one on the COA sticker on your computer will work. You do not need one if you are just trying to get to the Command Prompt or do a Repair.

    You can also create a bootable USB Flash drive (4GB or larger) to install Windows 7 from.

    1. Download and run Universal USB Installer – Easy as 1 2 3
    2. Select Windows 7 from the first drop down list, all the way to the bottom
    3. Select the downloaded Windows 7 iso file
    4. Select your USB flash drive
    5. Click Create


    For techies or folks who work on computers: Create Windows 7 Universal ISO With All Editions Selection On Install with ei.cfg Removal Utility.
    This will fit on a 6GB flash drive or can be burned to a DVD.
