A few questions regarding windows 7 64 bit...

Three questions :

1.Sometimes when i open a particular exe file, windows will ask me to confirm that i want to run the file. Is there a way to disable this? Unchecking the box does not help.

2.Is there a way to give my user account the rights and privelges of the hidden administrator account? Without actually logging onto that account everytime i want to do something. Sometimes i get blocked for doing some stuff like saving files to program files even though i have UAC set to never notify.

3.I accidentally used bootsect.exe to prepare a external HDD for a windows installation, is there a way to reverse the effects of this? Everytime i have the drive plugged in, windows complains bootmgr is missing (because there are no windows installation files on the drive).

Yes, but it will affect Internet Explorer resulting in it always saying that your security setting level puts your computer at risk. This will be the first thing you see whenever you open Internet Explorer, and you'll get the yellow bar at the top saying the same thing on every site you visit.

However, the nice thing is you no longer have to deal with that annoying "are you sure?" type of window.

When you say you get blocked, what exactly do you see? Can you post a screenshot?

1. Open the Internet Options (open the Start Menu, type internet op and press Enter)
2. Switch to the Security tab
3. Click "Custom level..."
4. In the little control panel that opens, scroll down until you see this (the scroll bar button position is circled to make it easier to find this section):

When you enable it, it will look like this:





When you click OK above, you'll see this:



Click Yes.

However, now every time you open Internet Explorer, the Home Page will always be a page telling you "Your security setting level puts your computer at risk". Also, every page you visit will give you the yellow Information Bar at the top telling you the same thing. You can close the Information Bar, but it comes back up for every page you open. The help file claims that you can turn it off, but it doesn't work for this.

3. i don't really know a particular way to undo/delete those mbr files, but i think you can just use windows disk management or other partition software to mark the disk as 'not active' as windows will look for boot files in the 'active' partition.

You should not have bootsected a non-OS HD. The way to clear it now is to move the data off and run Diskpart Clean Command , then repartition it in Disk Mgmt.

Turning off UAC is not recommended as you'll not be warned if an invader tries to run something on your PC. But if you don't care then keep your AV and Windows Firewall on and fully updated. Turning off UAC is the same as running Hidden Administrator.

Post a pic of the popup you`re getting.

It only works for the file that's being opened. If you download a new one and open it, then you see this message again because it's a new file. So making the change I described disables this entirely. It's great for when setting up a fresh installation of Windows.

Yep, the IE change fixed it. Although i can't figure out why IE changes would affect all files on windows....
