Missing Operating System Windows 7/Blinking cursor

At first the computer would not load Windows, it would stay frozen on the black screen with a blinking cursor/underscore.

Then I burned a "recovery disc" to access the system restore/start up repair but to no avail either. The start up repair shows no errors.

System restore fails to replace the file "windows defender" which doesn't allow the restore to proceed.

I then followed some instructions found on "seven forums" using the command prompt
    Bootrec.exe
    bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup
    c:
    cd boot
    attrib bcd -s -h -r
    ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old
    bootrec /RebuildBcd
    bootrec /fixmbr
    bootrec /fixboot

When I got to the "bootrec /rebuildbcd"
    "Total identified windows installations: 1"

It asked me to include "windows installation" in the boot list (Y)(N)(A). I accidently chose (N) and proceeded with the rest of the commands.

Once I removed the recovery disc and tried to reboot the computer normally, I received the message "missing operating system".

When I run the same commands again "bootrec /rebuildbcd"
    "Total identified windows installations: 0"

    It is now zero.

Can this be fixed with the same recovery disc? Or do I need to reinstall windows completely?

All your help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

Hello lcc mate if you just want a clean install either of these tutorials will get you going you just need to wipe or clean all that drive and use the code from the original OS sticker for activation.
