Windows Explorer folder icons not being displayed correctly

A few months ago, my folders in windows explorer started having this problem where the icons of the files inside no longer appeared. This only occurred after a windows update, but I haven't been able to identify which one. I've discovered that restarting the laptop fixes the problem, but only for around half an hour. Running CCleaner also disrupts the folders. It applies to all personal folders. See attached picture.

The folders 'Other I' and 'Other II' are how they should look. The other four folders are displaying incorrectly.

Does anyone know why it might be doing this and how I can fix it permanently?

have you tried rebuilding the icon cache

    Icon Cache - Rebuild

failing that try a sfc scan...

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

    Not fixed

Nope, problem has not been fixed. I deleted an image from a folder and it has messed it up again. Anyone else got different suggestions?

Hello DizzyWolf, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Since this is with folders, you might see if clearing and resetting the thumbnail cache may help.
    Hope this helps, :)

    Brink

That hasn't worked either. I also tried the Thumbnail Preview option I found posted. That isn't the problem either

In that case, you might see if running a SFC scan again to see if it may help if there's a corrupted system file.

SFC scan couldn't find anything wrong, as with the first scan.

I would recommend to do a system restore using a restore point dated before this happened, but since it started a few months ago, you most like do not.

If not, then a repair install should be able to fix this for you without losing anything.
