User Account Set to Temporary

Hello,
This is my first time here. I look forward to getting the help I desperately need.

ASUS G74sX
8GM RAM
Windows 7 Home Premium
Wireless router with one other computer connected.
The initial setup was done on my computer.
Four partitions D: E: M: P:
D: partition was created when I first got the computer.
E: M: P: created approximately one month ago. (Please do not ask me why. I have already been chastised about this in another forum).
Computer name: Philomena (renamed at this time from Phil1955)

Without going into a really long story, here is where I am at right now, and hopefully someone can help without having to hear the whole story, which would take up a lot of space and time. I am not quite sure at what point this happened, there are several actions taken over the past few weeks that could have caused this.

My main User Account decided it wanted to be temporary only. I cannot print, I cannot connect to a Home group, I cannot change certain areas that require me to be an Administrator, even though it shows I am. Plus a few other items that are not major. Just annoying.

I had renamed my computer a couple of weeks ago, to the now Philomena with User Philomena68. I did this by creating two other users Phil1 & Phil2, then copied the necessary files from my old User Name to the current Philomena68. Everything went fairly well unit about a week ago, when my User account Philomena68 decided to be temporary only. I again created two other User Accounts Phil13 & Phil31 both set as Administrator (I thought). When I logout and try to login on either one of them, I get the error "The User Profile service failed to logon. User Profile cannot be reloaded".

I am fearful that someone is going to tell me to reload Windows 7. By the way, I have attempted a recovery to no avail. Naturally my OS came with the computer so I have no original disks.

All I can say at this point is HELP! Let me know what other information is needed, and I will try to provide whatever I can remember. However, it will be hard.

Thank you for your reply and appreciate your solution for my issue. However it did not resolve the problem, in fact it was for the incorrect error. Even though I stated that I was being logged on with a temporary user account, I had been able to work without many issues. Then I found a member who had given a fix for the same problem. Unfortunately it only made matters worse. I cannot login at all. The error is the following:

"The User Profile service failed to logon. User Profile cannot be reloaded".

I spent most of the night, until about 4:00am, and then most of today, looking and searching for another option. (I am to stubborn for my own good). I tried just about every remedy there was to find. Safe Mode, Safe Mode with command prompt. System Repair, System Restore (I have never had that work even though it is turned on). Bottom line all the suggestions tell you to login with the Administrator account. However, I am the Administrator. I had three other User Accounts, Admin, Standard and Guest. I could not login to any of them.

I finally found a member who's fix for the same error was to changed one digit in the binary code in the registry under HKey_Local_Machine........SAM . Low and behold, and even though I am receiving errors, it booted up with the default Administrator and I was able to login. I am now at least running.

However, I still have a lot of issues. Comparing my husbands computer to mine, and based on the errors I have received, some of my directories and files and in the wrong place, or not even there.
Starting at the top of the directories I have the following:

• Favorites
• Libraries
• Computer
  
  • Philomena69
  • $Recycle Bin
  • Directories for Programs
  • Users
    
    • Public
    • Philomena
      
      • AppData
      • Contacts
      • etc. etc. etc.

I guess from here, my question is how do I get my computer back to normal. I can get into Control Panel, and the option "Make changes to user account" comes up, however it will not let me "Manage Another Account".

If more information is needed, I will supply as much as I can remember. I went around the world on this one. Again thank you for your help. If anyone else has any ideas, feel free to jump on the thread.

When you said you found a member who changed a key inside registry do you remember what that is ?

Also do you have a folder called TEMP inside C:\Users ? Delete the TEMP folder inside C:\Users .


:ADDED:

Open up an Elevated Command Prompt. Click on in type CMD . Right click on CMD under Programs (1) choose . On the User Access Control window click on the Yes button . Command Prompt opens up to C:\Windows\System32>_

Type or paste the command below

wmic useraccount get name,sid >%UserProfile%\Desktop\UserAcounts.txt press [ENTER]

Upload the UserAccounts.txt file with your reply .

   Tip

To paste to the command prompt right click on an empty area and choose Paste

Thanks for the prompt reply. To your first question, no Temp Folder under Users. Only Public. If I am remembering correctly, since I renamed the hard drive (apparently incorrectly) there has never been one. (This is probably part of my problem.)

Even though I am logged in as the Default Administrator apparently there are a lot of things that cannot be done. When I try to type anything in the "search programs and files" and press enter, nothing happens. Just to get into explorer I had to select Administrator from the start button. Doing a right click does nothing. When I select Administrator from Start (it shows at the top) I get this error. (I forgot to mention that in my last post.)

C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer, or on a network. Check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the Internet or your network, and then try again. If it still cannot be located, the information might have been moved to a different location.

There actually is no config directory. I checked. (Do not know how to insert print screen yet).

As for the deleted key in the registry, since I cannot get to a command prompt, without going into Safe Mode with command prompt, I need to use my husbands laptop to try and recreate what I did. I am too tired and brain dead, so will get back to you on that.

I just remember this, I selected HKEY_Local_Machine, went to something to do with the default Profile, and then found a directory called SAM. It listed what I gather were my three profiles. I double clicked on the latest Profile, which brought up the hex box, went to the 8th row and changed the first two digits from 11 to 10. Maybe being the guru you obviously are, you can figure it out from here. If not let me know and I will try and recreate when my brain has recovered.

Did you enable the built in administrator account ? By the sounds of the registry edit you did .

I just got back home being gone all day. On your question, due to the fact I was able to login after the change was made, I believe that is what was intended. I tried to go through the steps again on my other laptop. Best I can recollect it took this it what I think these are the steps.

Inside the registry . Navigate to

• SOFTWARE
• MICROSOFT

• CurrentVersion
• ProfileList

Inside the ProfileList you should see SID folders . Click on the + next to the SID folder locate the long names . Locate the profile you're having an issue with . Look at the right side you should see ProfileImagePath C:\Users\[username]

If you changed the User Name inside the Control Panel you forgot to change the name also in the registry . That is why you got the error .

The User name was the same as what I had before, so I made the change. Which I am assuming you wanted me to do, however no difference. I still can only get into the default Administrator, and continue to get the error

Can you open up a command prompt ?

Click on inside type CMD and press <ENTER>

Inside the command Prompt copy the highlighed text and paste inside the command prompt

wmic useraccount get name,sid > %UserProfile%\Desktop\UserAccounts.txt and press <ENTER>

To Paste inside the command prompt . Right click on an empty space and choose Paste

Upload the UserAccounts.txt file

File should be on your desktop
