Windows 7 problems

Hi, quite new here, but one thing I'll stand on and that is once you have really expensive software you don't want to find the next OS (or computer update) won't allow it to even install.

I've just "invested" in an HP Pavilion with Win 7, after my old one with XP ran out of steam and the wait time on browsing became too long to tolerate.

Shock Photoshop 4 software won't run on the Win 7 64 bit computer, and my "copy" of Photoshop 7 is corrupted to the point it lacks most features......but doom and gloom..... the end of the World came when Cadkey 7 won't even load onto Win7 64 runs on my old Toshiba laptop with XP and 98.

OK, OK, I'm still starting the car with the starting handle while everyone else pushes the start button, well most of us but the really mods are turning the ign key....LOL.

Now if I had all the money in the World, I would probably go with the flow and indulge in the fastest computer known to man and all the latest software, but as I'm in the golden rosy years of life, the retirement scenario means I'm just punching the keys for amusement, and a PC is a toy that keeps the marbles from sticking together.

Most, if not all, oldies have a PC for their other life experience, and most if not all don't want to go at light speed, but at the same time 'Net browsing on an older computer is one area where page turning becomes a frustrating experience when the page just hangs there while the computer, whatever, decides to move to the next page, (I'm told this is at the other end, not the computer's fault)

Running XP was a most satisfying experience and I'm told that if I deleted most, if not all, of the rubbish that accumulates from browsing and saving miscellaneous files, because they're interesting and need to be looked at when you get a round tuit, then the speed would go up again.

Quite true, my old Toshiba 4030CDT laptop rockets along when all it has installed is Win 98 and also Win XP as the OP systems, and various software packages like Photoshop 4, from way back when, that do all I ask and don't hang up if I try to use them.

So far Win 7 is rocket science honed to a fine edge, but if MS have decided to go with the grubby finger mode of screen touching with Win 8, then the whole PC scene will not be anything like we have known it, and for a very good reason, it's how the market uses phones and touch screens when on the move, and keyboards and mouses aren't in that picture.

I have a Wacom PL15 tablet, which is a touch screen monitor and now it looks like it will make Win 8 a possibility as MS envisaged it.

MS needs to come together with a tablet maker, (like Apple) to produce the equivalent of Apples's Ipad for Win 8, 9, 10, .....whatever.......or even have Win 8 as the system that will run on something like an Ipad......why reinvent the wheel .....and that will make Win 8 the thoroughbred system that MS is renowned for, but I think that would mean digging up Steve Jobs and breathing some life into him to have that innovativeness.

So far, Win 8 has been like designing and making a F1 engine and fitting it into a wheelbarrow.

If you really only have 2gb RAM on a Core I5 then you can and should run 32 bit Win7 anyway, up to 4gb RAM which is all 32 bit can read with some reserved for Hardware.

You need to reinstall anyway since the HP factory preinstall has the worst load of bloatware in the industry which throttles Win7 native performance. Most tech enthusiasts choose to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. Everything is provided in the link.

Hi, thanks for that, does that mean everything will be wiped clean and should have been backed up for a re-install?

Yes, Ian. Everything that could possibly be needed to remember for backup is compiled in the tutorial so you don't miss anything, and benefit from the experience of thousands we've helped here.

Another thing you can try is that on the newer HP's there is a Minimal Recovery that reinstalls only the OS with the HP Wireless Manager you can uninstall to default to Win7's superior wireless in the System Tray. There's a note at the end of the Reinstall tutorial about it. But it would reinstall 64 bit as far as I know - you can queue it up to see.
