    Another crazy problem

Some days I can copy and paste a whole page time and time again. Then all of a sudden maybe the next day I can't. I can try to paste a couple of words and I get a message saying, "Word can not complete the task because there is not enough memory. Try closing some programs or restarting windows". Then maybe the next day everything is back to normal. HELP.

Well then just follow the instructions. Close a few programs if there isn't enough memory or try to get more RAM.

I have 4 GIGs of ram and most of the time I can copy and paste a whole page without any drama. It just springs this crazy situation on me every now and then. When this happens I would like to be able to click something and get back to normal.

    Hello John,

Do you have the page file for your C: drive set to be managed by the system? If you have it turned off or set to low, you could get low memory type errors like this.

Virtual Memory Paging File - Change

    Hope this helps, :)

OK, it is now half an hour latter and again I can copy and paste as per normal, it seems to be a temporary problem that only happens now and the. Being a 73 year old pensioner, and it being a home computer, it is not a serious problem as much as an annoyance.

When it happens can you take and post a screenshot of the RAM tab of resource monitor? (write "performance monitor" in the Start menu searchbox to find and open it and leave it open in the background, so that when there is the error you can quickly take the screen-shot and upload it following this tutorial)

Sadly if it was easy to fix as clicking a button, more than half or the people here would have to go find another job.
Also, the guy above your last post did give a link to a tutorial about doing something that could solve the issue. Did you try doing it?

At one time I thought I was smarter than Microsoft so I set the page file to much lower than recommended since I have a lot of RAM. I then used to get the "low memory" message. So I went back to the settings and set it to allow the system to manage it. I don't get the low memory pop up any more. So I guess MS might be just a little bit smarter than I am.:)

Nar, it's not about being smart, but just understanding more about what the page file does.

The page file can be large if you have a lot of RAM, so you can also play with the size until you have enough to no longer get any low memory error messages. Of course the size of the page file is only an issue if you are low on hard drive space. :)
