    Windows 8 64bit mouse not clicking anything but still moving


    i have windows 8 64bit running on a dell studio 540 desktop and for the past few days the mouse will move around the screen but wont click anything as if there is no mouse at all but im still able to move it pls help

    Plug the mouse into a different USB port and see if it helps. Do you have another mouse you can try?

    i have tried 4 different mouses and different ports still has same problem, i have done a scan of the computers hardware and there is no issues

    Does the mouse click functions work in the BIOS? Boot to the BIOS (Setup as Dell calls it) with F2 at power on and see if it works in the BIOS. You could also boot and run the Dell diagnostics and see if the mouse functions in that or if the diagnostics find any problem. F12 at power on will allow access to the diagnostics.

    No mouse click functions in bios dont think there was before anyway and none in diagnostics but running them now so far everything is passing

    Tests finished it said there were no issues running memory tests now

    Testing finished no errors and no mouse controls in utility partition but it says to use keyboard keys to navigate

    Does the Device Manager show any error for the mouse?

    The next step would be to uninstall the mouse in the Device Manager then restart Windows but you would have to restart the PC with the Keyboard. The Windows key will access the start and then use the LEFT arrow key to access the "Shutdown" and then I think Enter will shut down the PC. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the mouse. If there were a corruption in Windows for the mouse this will fix it.

    I did that and it worked for a couple of minutes and now same thing again :/

    Could there be some sort of software conflict causing this??
