Folders and Files Not Showing Up Until Refreshed

I am experiencing some whacky behavior on my Windows 7 profile. It has been acting up lately doing strange things and I know if I "just create another profile" things will be ok, but I am a hardcore computer user and I am pretty picky about my layout, quicklaunch icons, program profiles/settings, etc so switching to a new profile would take me hours or painful configuration.

Here is what is currently happening...
When I create a new folder anywhere on the hard drive, it doesn't show up until I hit F5 to refresh the folder. If I rename a folder/file it doesn't show up until I hit F5. Basically any creation, modification, or deletion of file/folders on the drive are not showing up until I refresh the folder.

Anybody have any thoughts as to why this may be occurring? Any suggestions for a fix?

    Hi Bigboy,

If you create another administrator account, you could copy the contents of your user folders into the corresponding new account's user folders to keep your settings and shortcuts.

Another option is doing a repair install. It will allow you to keep everything as well.

    Hope this helps,

Yeh... Only problem is even when copying over the user's AppData folder you still don't get all program settings copied over... You get your data over which is good, but personalized settings and things such as CuteFTP, SecureCRT, Firefox, mIRC, Etc... don't copy over well.

I couldn't deal with the hassle of trying to troubleshoot the profile issue so I went through the process of creating a new profile and bringing everything over / reconfiguring settings.

I just hope it doesn't happen again...

Then again... I guess it's the price you pay using the Beta... ehhhhmmm I mean Final Release

I'm happy to hear that you got it sorted. If it does happen again, you might do a repair install instead. You will not lose anything doing it either.

Also, fyi, there are ways of backing up and restoring your FF profile so that all data, configuration, settings, extensions, bookmarks, etc. will be restored as if you never changed a thing. It's well worth learning how to do it. It can be done manually or there are some applications (e.g., an extension like FEBE) that automate the process.
