Windows 7: Previews for icons are gone, windows explorer turns black when maximiz

Previews for icons are gone, windows explorer turns black when maximiz

When I set my icon view to large, the previews don't show. Medium does show them, and lists work fine. Not sure about other options. Also, when I open a folder from my desktop and maximize it, it turns completely black and all the stuff at the top disappears (the search, etc.). If I make it smaller and refresh it and mouse over it, it will go back to normal. The icon preview thing started a few days ago. It didn't affect the desktop initially, but a couple days later it did. A couple days after that this black windows explorer thing started. And today I just found out I can't print screens into clipboard anymore, or my paint won't allow me to paste anything. Also, I can't adjust my sound options anymore. I get a red x beside the speaker in the icon in the bottom right of my screen where all the icons are, although the sound works.

Do I have a virus? I visited a phishing site a short while before this started. Could there be a connection? My Firefox hasn't been updated in a little while, same with Windows updates. I've been neglecting them and I don't set them to update automatically.

Run a Malwarebytes scan, test your System Files, establish a Clean Boot, check the logs and System Resources, test your hardware from these Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7.

If these fail try creating a new Admin-level User Account to see if the problem replicates itself. If so move on to a Repair Install. If not then move your files and programs over and eventually delete the old Account. User Account - Create - Windows 7 Help Forums
