How can I diagnose why my copy/paste function stops working??

    Good afternoon everyone,

I have developed a curious problem whereby my copy/paste function no longer works. It does not work in any browser, and i cannot even copy and paste into the search box under the start menu. For example, I may be trying to copy a tracking number and paste it into UPS and suddenly the past function will not work. I can highlight the number but it will not past the number. This is just an example. I usually must restart my PC and get it on the initial try and most times it will work that first try but not after.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Run SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker.

    Are there other performance problems?

Is this the original HP preinstalled WIn7 larded with the worst load of bloatware and duplicate utilties that have better versions built into Win7? Most tech enthusiasts would never run such an install - literally the worst possible install of WIn7 one can have - but instead prefer to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 to enjoy Win7 native perfect performance.

    Hi gregrocker,

I ran the SFC/SCANNOW and there were no problems found, and yes, this is the only issue.

Yep, it is the OEM HP Win7.

Computer runs excellent otherwise, even with das' bloatware, lol

I hope reinstalling the OS would be a last resort.....

Yes, it worked the first time I tried it, but only then. After it worked the first time it will not work again. I would have to restart my PC to get it to work again.

Do you use any registry cleaners or system optimizers ?
Have you tried booting in Safe Mode to see if copy/paste works there?
You could try this to clear the clipboard and see if that helps.

    Yes, i use CCleaner.

In safe mode the copy/paste seemed to work with no problems, I was able to repeatedly copy and paste.

You can try a clean startup to see if you can find a startup program that is causing an issue for you.
