I agree with many of the requests, but I find the request regarding Windows 7 Search totally strange. The search feature of Windows 7 is so much better than XP. I have indexed all my documents and music. Now, all I have to do is type anything at all about the file I'm looking for in the start search box and within a fraction of a second the desired result comes up. I hardly ever use the Windows Explorer nowadays because of the excellent search system.
When I have to find a file with a particular extension in a system folder, it can be done very easily by using the search box of that folder. I am curious to know how the XP search functionality was better than Window 7's?

    greater dual display (monitor) support.
example, allow different backgrounds on each monitor.

how about interactive backgrounds? example, graphics that move.

both of these could be an option in win7 ULTIMATE as it should be ULTIMATE afterall

ps, a HUGE THANKS for adding the snippet tool, it is AWESOME!!

Your first suggestion is a great one for people with multiple monitors...the second one has/been done and it is called Dreamscene in the Ultimate SKU of Windows Vista...

Sadly Dreamscene was canceled...so I doubt any recurrence of this feature in the Ultimate SKU of Windows 7 SP1 or above

dreamscene will eventually reappear in some version, the problem with it in vista is that the hardware on the average pc just wasn't ready for it. when it isn't as taxing on the machine expect that the ability to natively use animated wallpapers will return.

An addition from other discussions, strange it isn't here yet: people want Explorer to remember the window position for each folder.

And I think this topic should be made sticky

XP Mode (Remove it or Support it):
If Microsoft is going to offer XP mode for Windows 7 then Windows XP should be completely supported until end of life of Windows 7 because it is now part of a new OS. This means more service packs and all patches until the end of life of Windows 7. When Microsoft stops supporting Windows XP then Windows 7 will be completely compromised and be subject to security issues when using XP Mode.
That is rather stupid. They should NOT have to support Windows XP and create more service packs thus wasting resources that could be used on Vista or 7, just because they allowed us to have a decent compatibility mode in Windows 7.

If we used that logic, then every OS they are emulating with the Compatibility mode (list below) would have to be supported.
I think you are confusing two entirely different things. XP Mode is a REAL Windows XP load running in virtual mode. Compatibility mode is Windows 7 telling the software that it is running on Windows 98 or Windows XP, in other words it is fooling the software into thinking it is running on a different OS. So your logic is not quite correct.

Now I notice your post is from a while back and at that time MS did not have too many issues with XP Mode but now that crackers have found a way to get malicious code to run in XP Mode and then jump to Windows 7 why in the world would you NOT want MS to keep providing security patches for Windows XP = XP Mode. You would rather your machine be compromised? Not me MS need to support Windows XP = XP Mode or remove it from Windows 7.

One more request: please fix the "Always on top" mechanism. My gadget keeps getting covered with windows as they are switched (not always, unfortunately I haven't found a way to reproduce the problem). Sometimes after I call it up by pressing Win+G it stays on top but sometimes when I do so and then click on a window, it covers it again, so I have to unckeck and check again the "Always on top" tick of the gadget - after that it does stay on top till the next fail
