    Help needed - repair cycling

I had an unexpected glitch with the main machine just half an hour ago and I am getting a startup repair window cycling over and over.
I ran some scans Superantispyware and ADW they found nothing much did a system restore but it didn't work and am now at a loss as to what to do as my last back up was over two weeks ago.

I have been having a few problems all day with it to be honest like mail not downloading, my backup and restore in the Control Panel not working and any drives hooked up not being "seen". I have done the usual stuff before it went completely as SFC but before I could get to chkdsk it has finally got to this cycling thing.

Lucky I have most of my gear on this machine and the laptop but am now thinking maybe it is a total install.

Nope nothing at all mate it just cycles through the repair stuff. It did say the reg was corrupted and I now have the drive out and being scanned on the other machine. But it is looking like a save what you can and reinstall to me right now.

well before you even do that ... could you use UBCD (ultimate boot CD) and run a HDD diagnostic on the drive.

Well the scans came up clean and the only thing I can think of what has caused this is the Microsoft Malicious tool that updated yesterday because I thought I had it already and just downloaded thinking it was just an update to that

I'll try the UBCD after I have found out how to do that

Yep Shawn I have tried just about all the options I have absolutely no idea what is happening with the UBCD and I did manage to get into safe mode more by sheer luck than judgment after I referenced an error code - 0x8000FFFF to this Error message when you try to perform a system backup operation on a Windows Vista-based computer: "Catastrophic failure (0x8000FFFF)" and ran the chkdsk in safe mode and the drive is back on line.

I had visions of salvaging what I could and reinstalling not to mention my machine was throwing off dire warnings of CPU over heating. So for the minute I am just glad it is all back together. I suppose it managed to repair the reg which I got the corrupted message from.

As I think I mentioned earlier but if not I did download the Microsoft Malicious Removal too yesterday morning and maybe it was something to do with it I thought it was just updating the tool as I am sure I had it already. You may even remember that I had a problem with the Control Panel Back up and Restore not showing up properly so perhaps I have downloaded or done something wrong and this is the result.

    Addit:

Anyway the system is still not right it is dreadfully slow and has crashed yet again I think I am still going to salvage what I can after the next chkdsk as it seems the only way of getting something close to normal back and reinstall the OS on the new 256 SSD drive when it arrives. Then start from scratch my main concern really was my docs and pics.

This current drive I shall check out before I use it to clone the Sandy Bridge and run the 8 update on it which was my original plan.

Thanks to centaur and yourself for having a go for me I really do appreciate it
