To be honest your laptop could be overheating or you could have unnecessary start up programs
msconfig in the search box then STARTUP will tell you that
If it was an overheating issue then would my computer still run in safemodes?
overheating could be a result of too many taxing start up programs. just a thought. you can check by
going into msconfig and seeing if you have unnecessary start up programs.
Also i have had an issue with my laptop once where it was over heating and i found out some how the voltages on my cpu were set too high and i lowered it back to default so that helped.
i suggest following ^^ his suggestions first then if not, check your cpu temp.

EDIT: well then if it is overheating it could just be incorrect voltage settings. you can download open hardware monitor and check the temp.

    Download the next two programs

RogueKiller for 32bit <==== Download Link

RogueKiller for 64bit <==== Download Link

Click on one of the links above that goes with your Windows 7 bit versions

    Save to the Desktop.

    Close all windows and browsers

    Right click on and choose

    Press: SCAN

    Press: Delete

provide the RKreport.txt (Mode: Scan) in your reply.

    Run Malwarebytes

    Download Link MalwareBytes

When the installation is done uncheck Enable free trial of Malwarebytes (see image below )

Update the definitions and do a full scan

    On the Scanner tab:
Make sure the "Perform Full Scan" option is selected.
Then click on the Scan button.
If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.

I did try uninstalling trend micro and restarting the computer normally. It still gave me the freezing issue. I will try checking my cpu temp next and looking at what start up programs I have and see if I can remove some.
