    Installing Windows 7 64-bit on 4TB hard disk


    Hello,

    I bought a Seagate Baracuda 4 TB and i tried to install Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit to the new drive because is much faster than my older one and a message saying 'You cannot install Windows on this drive because this drive is GPT'. I reformat the drive in MBR withing Windows instaler and it slices my hard disk to 2TB and 1.600 TB partitions. When i try to enable the 1.600 partition in Windows Management is grey out and is not letting me format it and make it work. What to do to have and can use all space and install Windows and even better in GPT one partition drive? My motherboard is Intel DG31PR model.

    Limitation with MBR is that the MAXIMUM partition size is 2.2 TB (max). Windows won't see a disk bigger than 2.2 TB. The rest of the disk will not be useable !!!!.

    You SHOULD be able to install windows 7 on a GPT drive (at least the X-64 version) PROVIDED YOU ENABLE UEFI in the Bios. No UEFI no boot from GPT drive I'm afraid so END OF there.

    I'd go out and get an SSD --they are cheap enough now and install your windows and programs on that and now enjoy your FULL 4TB drive too. A 120 GB SSD is actually reasonably cheap now.

    Otherwise get a cheapish small HDD and install the OS on that - but seriously an SSD is so much better that once you've used one you'll never want to be without one again.

    (If your computer HAS UEFI then you'll be OK provided you enable it in the BIOS).
