    Hi there
A Cockney friend explained to me that a VERY important piece of info - applies to any purchase - Net or otherwise -

Never give "H.U.F" unless you know exactly what you are paying for and YOU HAVE DELIBERATELY ORDERED THE PRODUCT.

H.U.F is the old cockney's saying of "Handbag up front" --Handbag means MONEY !!!.

It's amazing we read totally endless drivel on how people spend a fortune installing expensive and poorly performing Anti Virus software - and yet they get duped by the simplest trick in the book.

Deliberately in BOLD and RED :

ANYTHING TO DO WITH MONEY --take not 100% care but 4,000% or better care before parting with a single zloty, penny, cent, eurocent, kronor etc etc. ALSO NEVER EVER BUY UNSOLICITED GOODS FROM THE NET --Only buy those you've DELIBERATELY ordered and just bin all the other spam / junk mail / commercial stuff.

As for retirement -- I'm semi-retired now --still do the odd I.T gig and some professional shoots --I have to say the I.T workplace is nothing like as exciting or as much fun now as when I first started in it -- not due to the hardware and possibilities - plenty of what looks like interesting projects around - but Management and the whole environment just seems to have got so much more "formal" and boring

I liked a bit of "The old wild west culture" --I'm not one who can sit through meetings with a load of suits for about 4 hours in deciding whether ONE line of change to a production program - which is obvious to all and sundry that it is the solution - needs 3 solid weeks of TESTING. !!!! which seems the norm now -- and often the code which you could do yourself in 2 secs flat (and I'm not even a professional coder) has to be sent away to India or Vietnam and probably comes back days later totally wrong. Not only that there are endless follow up meetings for relatively POINTLESS change control and Risk assessment. - Don't get me wrong - decent QC is fine but it all seems to have got overblown and out of hand - and having mega numbers of "consultants" from the big boys (Accenture, PWC etc) around doesn't help either.

    Cheers
    jimbo

You are but a slip of a lad (A Sussex one at that!)
When I said I have been going for 60 years this August I meant working years. I was born before WW2. In fact my mother often suggested that I caused it.

Hmm I am a bit of a spring chicken then mind you wish I could move like one again LOL!!

Yep jimbo it was when this character mentioned money the penny fell even funnier he reduced the price the more I strung him along $149 turned into $79 and then $69 after he "consulted" with his supervisor - but it would only be a one off fix. But in any case I NEVER use credit cards over the net or phone and then only in dire necessity.

Like I aid I can only put it down to being overly tired at the time. The Teamviewer I saw mentioned yep I have used that with my brother in the UK on a couple of occasions, it now has an updated version I found this afternoon when I got up and turned on the main machines.
