WIN7 Split partition failed... PC won't work???

Okay so I tried to split my main primary partition yesterday so it would make a 4gb partition. Well while it was doing this for some reason splitting the partition failed and now my PC cannot get past the Windows logo screen. It will show the windows 7 logo and before it gets to the login page my PC will restart itself... Now I am going to assume this hs something to do with the boot files since it can show the Windows 7 logo... I am going to try using fixboot with a recovery CD... Other than that any ides on how to fix this without reformatting my drive???

Exactly what partitioning operation did you do, and with what tool? To "split" a partition is not common. Did you shrink it to create a new partition?

It's possible if you used any other than Disk Mgmt or free Partition Wizard bootable CD there was failure with data loss. I would confirm the Win7 partition (or it's 100mb System Reserved partition if you have it) is Partition Marked Active then run Startup Repair - Run up to 3 Separate Times

if this fails you can try to browse in with the booted Win7 installer using Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console to see if your files are intact to rescue to an external or flash stick, or boot free Paragon Rescue Kit Free Edition 11.0 Free CD.

Then do a booted Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 deleting all partitions to create and format new when you get to Steps 7 and 8 of Clean Install Windows 7

I got it all figured out... I uses Aoemi Partition Assistant Standard Edition and that is what messed it up... Whatever I got rid of that one and I fixed the problem. I fixed the problem by clicking F8 at pc startup and there was a repair your computer button so I clicked that and it worked! I also got my neighbor to burn my Windows 7 64-BIT ISO to a disk now so if that happens in the future I have an actual disc that works to use! Then I ended up using Minitool Partition Wizard and it worked perfectly! Well anyways I am going to make a new thread for a question I have with the partition so please check it out if you can help thanks! If you are wondering I got my windows 7 64 BIT iso from: http://msft.digitalrivercontent.net/win/X17-24209.iso

Aomei is an excellent tool. You may have done something wrong. I have never had an issue with it.

Glad to hear it is ok now.

    Good idea.

I know Aomei is usually excellent but it gave me that problem so I'll just use Minitool Partition Wizard Technician Edition... Thanks though for the help and please check out my newest post: How can I make a shorcut to a hidden drive/partition with no letter???
