    Weird Folder Name

I just noticed a weird folder on my c drive and it said at first I was not authorized but I am the administrator and its my personal windows 7 machine.

The name of the folder is "C:\4c2e9225330080274612f4751f" and the date shows 8/4/13. I was able to go inside and found more subfolders. It says I am not authorized if I try to go deeper. There are also some root folders there with some dates back to May 17, 2011.

Could this folder have been created when I did a backup of the registry with regedit perhaps? I was having fits a week or so ago trying to remove some malware, and in the process I know I did backup my registry before I messed with it.

    Thanks,

    Bruce

Folders like this are most likely left over from a Window Update install. If you dig around in the files, you can probably find out which update did not clean up after itself. You can delete such folders or just leave them be.

    Hi Bruce,

Please let us know if you were able to remove all malware infections from the system. You can run the same by following this:

    Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware download

As rightly suggested by UsernameIssues you can try to delete the folder but you might get an error so you could try the same in command prompt:

Folder - Delete from Command Prompt

Keep us posted with the results so we can advise you further.

Well I tried the suggestion of dropping to DOS from within windows and it still says access denied. So, maybe if I boot to the prompt. I will have to write down the folder name so I can type that in. Will post back if that works.

    Thanks

    Hi BruceWin7,

Yes you can try to boot to command prompt using windows 7 disk and then delete the folder to see. Please check the tutorial for the same:

    Command Prompt at Startup

You should also try and take the ownership of the folder and then try to delete the same:

    Take Ownership Shortcut

Keep us posted with the results so we can advise you further.
