    Hello 1shinkim1,

By default, Windows 7 does not have .dds files to be associated to open with any programs. If you like, you could download and merge the .reg file I posted below, then restart the PC to undo what you set to open with to see if that may help. After merging, click on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve.

    Hope this helps, :)

No problem. In that case, try doing the same with the .reg file below to unassociated .dds files, then restart the PC afterwards.

Here's the steps to check to see:

You'll need to be logged in as an administrator.

Download the .reg file to your desktop.

Right click on the downloaded .reg file, and click on Merge.

If prompted, be sure to click on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge. If you miss one, it will not work.

Restart the computer to fully apply.

That's fine. You only get the UAC (User Account Control) prompt to say "Yes" to if you have UAC set to "Always notify". If you check in Default Programs below, do you still have "Notepad" listed as the "current default program" for the .dds file type? You might see if you may be able to use this below to unassociated .dds files.

thank for the info that you gave me about UAC

now i do get the option for notepad in 'open with' section if this is what you mean.

also i try to do the stuff that you asked but did not work.
i tried both option but still did not change the .dds file from opening window photo viewer.

    Hmm, ok.

Please go ahead and export the key from this location below in your registry, and upload it here to see what it shows.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\dds
