How to turn off auto advance on attached slide show?

I open a folder with jpg files, click on slideshow and presentation is what I want. However, I would like to manual advance the files rather than have an automatic advance.
I am using the slides as instruction material and will do the advance as the audience permits.
Am attaching a screen shot of a sample folder I will be using. I will click on "slideshow' on the menu bar.

If I've understood you correctly you want to click/press a key in order to move on to the next picture, correct?

If so all you have to do is right click while in the slide-show mode and Pause the slide-show.
Then you can advance and return using the arrow keys on the keyboard :) .

You can also press the Space bar on your keyboard to pause a slide show.
    It will also restart it.
