Its the same as in Vista with the exception that the advanced search features have been tweaked/changed some what. From the start menu and Windows Explorer it functions the same (with some added performance).

Thanks. If I want to install Windows Search 4.0 in Windows 7, is it compatible? I understand that most of the applications which work with Vista work in Windows 7 also, but I dont want to take a chance and would like to be sure before I go ahead considering Windows Search 4.0 in my default Windows 7 OS build.
Thanks
Here is what I take away from this article (Constantly Improving section): Engineering Windows 7 : Windows Desktop Search
WDS v3 shipped with Vista. WDS v4 was an available download for XP and Vista. The version of WDS in 7 is newer than 4. Looking in my registry I see a 4.6 version number.
I dont think you can install an older version of WDS. But I myself have never tried
Thanks. I checked the Windows Search version in Windows 7 x64 OS to be 6.1 and the indexer catalog version to be 4.6.
BTW, I tried installing Windows Search 4.0 for Windows Vista 64-bit on Windows 7 and found that it is not applicable for Windows 7. Windows search on Windows 7 is higher than Windows Search 4.0. Thanks for clarifying.
