    PC Tune Up

I keep getting the attached screen shop coming up on my computer and would like to know, is it worth having or is it just a scam to get my hard earned cash? How do AVG know how fast my machine works and do they have access to it to get that sort of information. Should I be worried about the security of my data

Are you running AVG antivirus? It is probably pop up from that piece of software. You shouldn't need to worry about it. Most "cleaners" are just crap designed to part you from your money and have no real value to your computer. If you really want to get a cleaner, you can download the free CCleaner from Piriform. A new version was just released. Good luck!

    Hi Ron,
you have AVG installed on your PC
If yes, AVG installed, is free version?
If yes, above attached is just an advertisement, that is asking you to buy this add on for AVG. So, nothing to worry.

But, you mentioned that this keeps popping up. That can be a spyware. Run Malwarebytes to scan your PC and anti-spyware.

No, its not worth purchasing. The pop-up is simply an advert...nothing you can do about that since thats the price you pay for free software. Alternatively, replace AVG (pile of rubbish anyway) with MSE.

    AVG Pop Up

Thanks for your replies Gents. I am running the paid version of AVG and the licence does not run out until December this year. As soon as it does, I intend to look for another anti virus programme as AVG seems to slow everything down and keeps trying to make me spend more money buying more of their products thus become more dependant on them. As you say, "Rubbish"

My computer has been running a bit slow and I have done a SuperAniSpy full scan, In addition, I have MalwareBytes running in the background and nothing was found by either programmes so I guess it was AVG doing something behind the scenes. I downloaded CC Cleaner as was suggested in an earlier post and that seems to have helped.

Thanks again, nice to know you are all out there ready to help.

Don't wait to dump AVG, do it now. MSE with MBAM and SAPW well offer you the best protection without using up precious resources. IMHO AVG is closer to malware than antivirus software.

If you want high quality free software then you should look into some flavor of Linux, Ubuntu is very user friendly, as is Mint, OpenSUSE is very powerful and fairly easy to setup. No need to give up your MS Win software as you can run a virtual Win machine in Linux with Wine.

All these names, I have never heard of most of them, Linux maybe but I don't know what that does or how it works or what it's for. Can you give me a link to Mint please?? I have no idea what OpenSUSE or Ubuntu is I am afraid.

In your considered opinion, which one do you think is the best for me, as a plain computer user with no technical experience to install??

Thanks for your words of advice, very grateful.

    Cheers for now,

Ubuntu is the Operating system from Linux. This was suggested to you, as this is a very user friendly and light OS. As suggested, use some other antivirus or you can buy AVG tune up utility. It will not kill your system .

If you want you can check here to compare the packages available for Win 7.Best Antivirus Software for Windows 7 Review 2013 | Compare Virus Protection for Windows 7 - TopTenREVIEWS

In my opinion go for Bitdefender.
