I would first follow the steps in User Folders - Restore Default Location - Windows 7 Forums
then try moving again, instead of creating a whole new profile which can become a bigger can of worms.

I have now fitted the new keyboard which has fixed the original fault. I have managed to set the user folders to go to the E drive as default instead of C drive using option 2 of the tutorial as option 1 went very wrong, but was easily solved by creating a new user profile for myself then following option 2 and finally deleting my old profile that was messed up. Yet I followed option 1 to the letter. I think it was when I copied my user folder to the E drive that it went wrong as 5 files could not be copied and I had to click ignore then followed the rest of the tutorial which failed to make E drive the default location for my user folders. Option 2 was best for me any how as I wanted any other users folders to go to the same drive, which option 2 does.

Where did you end up getting the new keyboard from? Actually not that it matters I was just curious. I am glad the original issue is now resolved. I would bet one of two things happened to the original keyboard. 1) moisture of some type got between the films. (doesn't take much more than a drop on some keyboards). or 2) the carbon button under the rubber dome fell off the dome and was making constant contact. tear that old one apart and I bet you'll find out what did it.

I got the new keyboard using ur link thank you. I think ur link was to Ebay.US but when I looked at the listing I could see the supplier was from the UK so I logged into my Ebay.co.uk using the same item description and it came up with the same supplier with cheaper postage. I did try else where with no joy. Thanks for ur help and I will see if I can pinpoint the cause with the old keyboard.

Since the clean install some of the keys on the keyboard no longer work and i cant see on the Sony downloads anything that describes a keyboard driver

The keyboard driver is standard and comes in the installer.

Try the On Screen Keyboard in Control Panel>Ease of Access to see if the letters are still dead.

Were these same keys malfunctioning on the old keyboard?

Do you have Recovery Disks or a backup image of previous install, as suggested in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

All the normal keys are working its the function keys and specific sony keys that Im talking about. Its basically the whole top row of keys that dont do what they should. Some of the top row do do things when pressed but not what they should do. So I think I need a Sony driver or software.

This is explained in the Special Note for Sony Owners at the end of Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

It shows four Sony drivers that must be installed in order to resolve this at Function keys don't work after clean install

The drivers themselves are at Sony : VGN-AW31XY/Q updates | Download updates for VGN-AW31XY/Q. If you click on Win7 drivers, scroll down to Preinstalled drivers and they are there.

Good pointers Greg and my keyboard seems back to normal. I was put off looking in that section of the Sony downloads as they were listed under Vista.

They tend to list the originally installed drivers under the native OS. This doesn't mean they won't work with Win7, and even if they're older Windows Updates will scan them to see if there is any newer driver that Win7 wants. Be sure you've enabled Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3)

Let us know how performance pans out as you go forward. At some point you'll want to capture a Win7 backup image so you never have to reinstall again. Be sure to touch base with all of the other Reinstall tutorial points so you know you have it set up best.
