    EDIT:
    Audio said:

It is not the full version.
Well, according to Digital River e-mail support team:

    Dear Customer,

Thank you for choosing Windows 7 Online store.

We understand that you are interested to purchase Windows 7 Upgrade
    through our online store.

    We apologize for the confusion.

The Windows 7 offered in this promotion is a full version. You can
    install this product even though
you do not have a previous Operating System installed in your computer
or if you want to make a multi
boot using Windows 7. The "Upgrade" included in the product name is just
    because Windows 7 is the
    latest Operating System Windows developed.

    Sincerely,
    Joanna A.

Cyanide's post answers a question I was asking in another thread. I am eligible for the student offer but I will need to do a clean install as I want to go from 32-bit Vista to 64-bit Windows 7 but the "upgrade" label was worrying me.

I have another question which indirectly relates to the student offer. Both Home Premium and Professional are available at the same price on the student offer so should I just reflexively go for the Professional? I have read that Home Premium does not include the Windows XP virtual environment but I am not sure whether that is accurate or not. I mean, that XP environment is an attractive feature and if Professional is the same price surely that is the better option on that basis.

    Any thoughts?

Get the Professional - I wish I could get it for $30 or whatever you guys are paying.

Anyone got a spare academic email address?

I think I am going to grab Windows 7 Professional. It is £30 for eligible UK students, giving immediate access to the download, plus £9 for the disks. Think I will get the whole package and just wait for the disk to arrive and do the installation from that.

I am still in a state of some confusion over the difference between the "upgrade" box and the "full version". If I can do a clean installation of 64-bit Windows 7 from the "upgrade" disk then how is it different from the "full version".

    I am puzzled.

It is different for normal purchasers. The student price to UPGRADE, i.e move to something better - gets the full key - at least from the US.

Ah, so if I buy the student "upgrade" I am, in effect, getting the full package? That's good.

That's what they get in the U.S.

Cool. I have e-mailed Microsoft support to try to clarify the issue in the UK so if I get a definitive answer I will post it here.

Thanks - I imagine the answer will not be definitive.
