So I purchased win7 about a month ago through their student program for $30, and I chose to do the download option. Does anybody have any idea if this will be available right at 12a, or later on in the day / the next day or so?

If you are a student have you checked to see if your school is a member of the Microsoft Academic Alliance? If so, you can get Windows 7 Pro for free through the schools MSDNAA page (some schools refer to it as ELMS, which is short for e-academy License Mangement System).
On the win741.com deal did you get Home Premium or Pro? <-- you are aware that it is an upgrade DVD, and not full version right? Although, the Vista Upgrade trick may work with the Win7 Upgrade also allowing you to do a clean install with the upgrade version.
I scanned the digitalriver site, which is the company that Win was directing these sales through, and it looks like I have to wait for a link to download via email, which could be awhile.

I ordered mine also and I am waiting for it!
My guess is they are doing it by order number pririty, which is stupid... they should do it by coast... since it is already past 12am Oct 22nd on the east coast it should hit here first.
A "Clean" install is different than what they are describing in your link... A clean install is a total format of your HDD, then you install everything; driver by driver, app by app.
I just did a little research and the workaround that we could get away with on Vista had apparently been removed!

Well on that win7 upgrade chart that was floating around for awhile, it showed that you could upgrade from win xp, so I could install a fresh copy of xp then upgrade.A "Clean" install is different than what they are describing in your link...
