I wouldn't do all optional updates, the bing bar and other related things are there that are not needed. I would do only driver updates provided under optional, but everyone has their own opinion.

[Read it after following the suggestions as per post #41]

One thing I am wondering .... a few years ago I used to use an ASUS board. I experienced some issues with that one. Some random freezes, hard hangs etc. Everytime I experienced that, I dismantled that PC (but not the CPU), cleaned the edges of RAM, SATA/POWER cables, GPU etc with clean cotton cloth and seated all back. Then it worked smoothly for a couple of months or so.

    You may plan it.

On another note, do you have any replacement PSU? It would be better to evaluate the situation with another PSU, as some sudden fluctuation in the power supply may cause the issue, too.

Also, make it sure that nothing is overclocked there.
    Code:
    ProcessorNameString = REG_SZ Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz
    ~MHz = REG_DWORD 3310

You can hide the Bing crap but I would not avoid any Optional Updates since there are sometimes queued there needed performance patches.

Ya, I know; i just didn't want the user to select everything by mistake and get the bing bar or silverlight. I should have mentioned they could hide it. The rest I would install.

    Thanks for pointing that out.

I just ran 8 passes of memtest. No errors.

Optional updates, I still have 45 that I did not install. I will install them now, minus Silverlight and Bing.

And I've unseated my harddrives, graphics, and rams before to clean them. I have not removed the PSU or have a replacement. I'll look into that, starting with the PSU calculator you suggested.

Also, how do I make sure nothing is "overclocked"? I inherited this computer from my brother who went abroad; the only things I changed were the graphics card and the solid state drive in the last 2 months, hoping that would solve these issues...

I was unable to fill out all the details in the PSU calculator page using Speccy, but with some guessing on my part, it recommended just under 500 watts. My PSU model supplies 750W.

    750 wattss are enough.

Now, how far have you gone through the post #41? Do the other hardware tests like furmark and prime 95.

Make it sure that the new Samsung SSD is running with the up-to-date firmware. I think you have Samsunng Magician installed? Have a check.

Can you see a brand and model number of your PSU? Some low end 750W ones make excellent 350W PSUs, in other words they don't have good nor clean output.

    Hi Britton,
    It's by Corsair: CMPSU-750HX

Arc, I do have Samsung Magician installed, and I just checked again: I'm using the latest firmware. I'll go through those other hardware tests today, thanks.
