Help - FireFox Has Stopped Responding (I don't have FireFox installed)

Hi guys, I wasn't sure where to post this. Intermittently (every 2-3 days) when I start up my computer I constantly get a pop up stating that Firefox has stopped responding. The trouble is I don't even have Firefox installed. As a diagnostic step I downloaded and installed Firefox then used Revo Uninstaller to wipe the machine clean of Firefox. I've ensured all Firefox folders are deleted as well.

I've run a scan using Kaspersky Internet Security 2014 and Malwarebytes but no joy in finding anything at all threat related. Unfortunately as I type this it has stopped so I cannot get screen shots but will add these as soon as I can.

    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks,
    H

Have you checked the Task Manager when you receive that message?

    Which browser are you using?

Yeah I checked there as well mate to see if there were any Firefox related processes that I could see but nothing stood out and under applications it was only my browser that was running.

I use Google Chrome and nothing else, IE is installed but I think it's been opened no more than twice.

Open a search window and search for Firefox...the files are there somewhere although it'd be the 1st time i've heard of Revo leaving something behind...

I asked because I've just recently swapped to Pale Moon (a Firefox fork) and W7 gets confused about whether I'm running FF or PM.
For example, I've set PM as the default browser, but W7 still opens FF for programs that aren't hard coded to use IE.

    You could:

    • Take a screenshot of the Task Manager when everything is running properly
    • Compare the screenshot to the Task manager when you notice the message

This could be problematic, if you have lots of services and programs running.

The problem can relate to the inferior Factory Preinstalled Win7 with all of the bloatware and duplicate utiltiies which interfere with better versions built into Win7, throttle Win7 from its native performance and can cause problems.

That's why most tech enthusiasts will not run such an install but instead Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. Everything is provided in the blue link tutorial.

At the minimum I'd Clean Up Factory Bloatware.

If this doesn't resolve performance problems, work through these Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7.
