Windows 7 login box MISSING - Cant login

    Hello everyone

I've navigated almost the whole internet to find a solution to this problem, but I found none

The PC starts up fine like usual untill the windows 7 login screen, once in there, there is no login box. The image of my User session is missing, aswell as the line where im supposed to type in my password, Its just the plain blueish windows 7 screen.

Image - TinyPic - Free Image Hosting, Photo Sharing & Video Hosting - thats a picture of how it looks like. (It is not mine though)

Also note, the screen flickers every a couple seconds and the mouse pointer works fine

I have tried turning off the PC for a while and trying again later, i also tried restarting it several times and safe mode aswell but they all lead to the same problem. I also dont have a repair disk

I am quite desperate to use my PC again, its been like that for almost a week now and the tech guy isnt coming untill wednesday. I would really like to know if its an error i can fix myself maybe through the bios or something or if its well beyond that and I might need a windows or maybe even hardware replacement.

    Thanks all!

So you cannot even get into safe mode?? If not then sounds like you will have to reinstall - hopefully you have all your data backed up?

Just to make sure the safe mode is not there turn the power right off leave off for a minute or so then as you push the power switch be tapping the F8 button. Make sure you have no external plug in sticks or externals and nothing in the optical drive.

As a matter of interest are you getting any beeps from the machine when you power up? if so how many?

Safe mode leads me to the same problem, the computer being stuck in the login screen without login prompt therefore i have no access to windows features. And no, i dont get any beeps from my computer.

Now dindong there should be a RAM beep when it powers up so may I suggest reseating the RAM sticks?

If this does not work then it may be worth trying a memtest

https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105647-ram-test-memtest86.html this one you will need to make a bootable disk set the BIOS to optical (or USB if preferred) boot the machine and let it run for at LEAST 8 passes unless the errors come up straight away. Takes fair time to complete and some leave it running overnight.

If this does not come up with anything then if you have backed up your data or don't have a great deal then it might be that you will need to reinstall. Is your OS an OEM or retail version?
