If the HD is detected then work through the steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start starting with the HD tests.

Everything that possibly can be done is there leading up to if necessary rescuiing any files to run Recovery or get the vastly superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Failure to boot a disk is 90% of the time user failure: How to Boot A Computer from CD or DVD - YouTube. If it persists reset the BIOS to defaults: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS. Try also the bootable flash stick options for all boot disks needed for repairs.

Once again is that partition just as large as C in win7? Is it NTFS, type primary and ACTIVE?
Partition Wizard Bootable CD allows user to manage partition directly with partition manager bootable CD. downlaod, burn and boot from it.
Is the internal dsik a BASIC disk? Is the partition ACTIVE/PRIMARY and file system NTFS? (doubleclick on partition displays the files, can you browse thorugh it)?

Maybe you can make a camera shot and post it
Partition wizard takes about 30 mins to load up, with no support for the mouse. When it finally boots it list my C drive as a "bad disk" and all options are grayed out. It is also listed as a BASIC disk. But i'm unable to browse through the files using Partition wizard.

Replace the HD, unless you want a second opinion using the maker's HD Diagnostic CD scan.

You can also try wiping the HD using PW CD since it's normally bad boot code that would cause interference booting CD's or DVD's, but the PW "Bad Disk" label is usually definitive.

Currently running through these steps. Running a virus scan on the drive in parted magic, which has no problem accessing the drive at all, or any of its files. Which is strange to me. Definitely don't think the hd is dead. Something is wrong with boot files.

Can I run chkdsk or sfc or fixbdr etc from parted magic?

Seatools long scan passed with no errors or indication of a faulty drive.

So seatools says harddisk is totally fine? parted magic sees all fine and can display the files. Can it also open a text file and see it's contents?

win7 repair disc: freezes... most likely on scanning for disk drives/partitions
    win 7 install disc: same
partition wizard: also found errors and says bad disk (after long time).

In parted magic it has only 1 partition, is it a primary partition and NTFS?

From post #1: However this time it hangs on a black screen right after "windows is loading files" for an indeterminate time.

Sure you boot from harddisk? No DVD, no USB inserted then? So you're sure that message comes from internal harddisk (trying to load win7)

Seatools for dos reported passed after both short and long test.

I can open a picture no prob, looking at a bunch now. Text file looks good, even played a song just to check.

One partition on drive, file system ntfs, flags boot, it's pretty ful though about 91% but I can delete some files if need be.

Yes I'm sure no other DVD/USB connected, boot sequence confirmed.

When trying to boot windows normally it gets to "starting windows" and rite before the win7 animation starts then it tries to go into start up repair but it hangs that black screen for a while, then on the blue background screen with a curser for many hours.

So far so good. and luckely only 1 partition (makes troubleshooting easier). Don't mess around with win7 files in linux please.

Partition is ntfs, flags boot (so type=primary and active).

linux didn't touch the MBR bootcode though, and not the partition boot sector. But I think partition wizard and boot from win7 install dvd don't touch it either.... what the heck is going on ;-(

First step is to make a partition backup (not a full disk) to extern disk. Partition wizard can clone partitions (sort of backup) but partition wizard has problems as well. Macrium is winpe (sort of mini windows...deosn't work as well)

Try clonezilla or gparted or.... anything you want. I just want you to make a good backup image or partition clone.

    After that we go further
