Keyboard and mouse unresponsive after ~30 mins of use

My issue started a couple weeks ago, and it startled me at first because all of the lights on my keyboard started flashing on and off and I could no longer use my mouse and keyboard. My hard drive and my USB headphones still work however.

I noticed that if the issue happens while my devices were connected to USB 2, I could switch to USB 3 and they would work until this issue happens again. I'm not sure if this is relevant.


Also, at times I randomly hear the USB unplug sound.


This issue usually happens when I am playing a game. In fact, I don't think it's happened when I wasn't playing a game, though I may remember it happening when using google chrome. Not sure.


I have deleted my hard drive and reinstalled windows 7, the issue persists.


Does anyone know any steps I can take to ensure this does not happen. I will not spend any money on the fix, as this computer is pretty new and I spent well over a thousand dollars on it.

i don't have any spares but i have plugged them into a laptop and they worked flawlessly.i built the machine together a little over a year ago, so i doubt i still have any warranty on the parts. the keyboard and mouse however are pretty lightly used, but are a couple years old. it may be a hardware issue, but i find it funny how both devices stop working simultaneously.

i just came back from a coupel hours of not being on my computer, while it was on. they keyboard and mouse worked fine. then they broke. im guessing this problem is from them being used, not from them being plugged in.

when i get home, i will fill this information out. but for now, a small update. i replaced my keyboard with an older one that we had laying around and the keyboard no longer breaks during use, however, the mouse will lag every once in a while, and though it isn't game-threatening, it has been quite a nuisance for those quick maneuvers that i need to make.
