Help me speed up my laptop as much as possible, Without Windows...

    ...reinstall.

The tittle sums it up. Now dont think that I just think that my PCs slow, it is.

    SPECS!:

    Intel i3-2330m
    Nvidia 410m
    Windows 7 home absic 64bit
HDD, 304GB used 149GB free out of 500GB

So i dont wanna reintall windows. It tried Ccleaner, but it didn't help too much, defragmentating the HDD didn't help too much, either. I have AVG Free anti virus installed, I do full system scans every now and then (a months or two apart) is this anti virus good? Should i change it? A free one!

Thanks, if you need more info then I'll gladly provide it.

PS i heard something about malware hogging up resources?
PS I dont have too many programs in the startup tab in MSconfig, here:

If you are not going to use Windows as the operating system, what are you going to install?

Hi there ... Read the Tutorial below .. I would also think about getting another AV .. Either MSE or Avast AVG is not so good so would suggest you dump that ...

I agree with maxie here. AVG is a resourse hog and not all that great imho. Check the link provided and try the tips there, it should help. You could also try running an sfc/scannow to check for and possibly repair any corrupted system files. Here a link to how to do that :

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

If you want to invest a bit of money, replace the HDD disk with a SSD. Dollar for dollar that gives you the best performance optimization. A 120GB SSD costs about $100 and a 250GB SSD is arouns $150 (US prices).

I gather you are against a clean install but that is the only way to get a perfect install of Windows 7. Once you get that done and create a backup with Macrium Reflect or similar you will never have to do another install. That combined with an SSD would be perfection IMHO
