I wanted to put a program in the startup folder and "poof" it doesn't seem to be where it was before.
Ie. I lost it.
I tried typing in the search box "startup" and nothing came up that says "startup"
any ideas on how I can find it?

Just to clarify, do you mean that the program's shortcut is no longer in your "Startup" folder, or the program is no longer located where it was installed or saved at?
There are two Startup folders in Windows. They are hidden folders, so you'll need to set to have hidden folder show to see them.
(Current User only)
C:\Users\(User-Name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
(All Users)
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

well this is the folder I am looking for. I did finally find it but as you say it seems hidden.
how do I unhide it and why is it hidden?
1. Easiest to get to the startup folder is to type shell:startup into the start/search field and hit Enter
2. Next time don't move the folder there but a shortcut of the folder.

Good news.
I wouldn't recommend to unhide the AppData folder. This is a system folder that is hidden to protect it and should remain hidden. If you like, you could use the context menu added by the tutorial below to make it easier to show or hide hidden files as needed.
