Recommend an archiving tool for Windows Explorer ?

Can anyone recommend an archiving application (or 'status'?) that works within Windows Explorer?

Let me explain:
I want to have a folder that appears at the bottom of every listing of folders to where I can drag any file that I've finished with but which I still need to keep in case it's useful later on. In order not to get in the way visually it should look like the last folder in the list of folder and files within the current folder.
And then if I cant find the file(s) I'm looking for I should be able to click on the Archive section to see all the files. OR perhaps there is just a global button visible in all directories in Windows Explorer that toggles showing/hiding all 'Archived' files in the current directory.

Does that make sense?
Has anyone built such a thing?
Or is there some better way of archiving that I haven't thought of?

With thanks

This is by far the best free archiving tool (beats paid versions for speed). Not sure exactly what you want to do but I am sure this will allow you to leave compressed files in the folders for later recovery. It is very fast and lean too. Good Luck.

If I've understood you correctly, it seems you want a backlog of potentially useful files sitting in the directory it used to be in, right? Do you want separate folders for every listing? If so, I'm at a loss. I can't think of a way to do this, and I've never heard of any software that does this, though I'm really not all that up-to-date on the latest software and all that. If, however, you're fine with one global folder that contains all those files, then you could create a folder in your C: (or whichever drive letter) called "Archive" or something, then create a shortcut to it that you can copy where ever you like. So in the future, when you're done with a file, simply drag and drop to the shortcut, and voila.
Hope this helps.

Hey folks, I've been trying to get at some .dds images - you'd think with how widely used they are now there would be native support or at least an optional download, eh. I heard MysticThumbs was good, but it's trialware. Then I came across SageThumbs, which sounds like it fits the bill...

Windows Explorer shortcut on tool bar, opens library
I tried searching for this, but all the terms are so generic I got billions of hits. There is a shortcut...... I guess it's "pinned" to the taskbar (is it a toolbar?). I could swear when I first installed Win7 that it was setup to be a shortcut to the "computer". However, it now always opens...
