Re-installed with existing secondary drive and can not access files...

I re-installed Windows 7 64 bit on my custom computer. I have two hard drives. One is my main drive which I re-formatted and re-installed windows on, the second is my drive where I store all my files, what I call my data drive. The second/data drive was obviously not re-formatted. After the install I try to access pics and videos on the secondary/data drive and it keeps saying I don't have permission. I have slaved over this for days. Please help! Thanks in advance.

    Try this: Take Ownership Shortcut

It adds a Take Ownership entry to the right click Context menu. Then use it to take ownership of the folders you are having problems with.

Always unplug all other HD's when installing Win7.

Let us know how Take Ownership works on the drive.

Are you running under the Admin account which is what should have been set up during install?

Thanks for your help. I thought it was justvthe opposite as far as having the hdd plugged in on install. I tried the "ownership" but it didn't work...I mean it installed fine and I was able to use it but it didn't change anything.

Can you move the data off the drive, wipe it with Diskpart Clean Command, repartition in Disk Mgmt and move the data back on? Partition or Volume - Create New

Copied and pasted to the c:\ drive and then the same back to the d:\ drive and it reset the permissions. Problem solved! Because I had so many huge vid files I had to do them individually by going into the properties, security, advanced, added "everyone" as user and gave full control. Took a while but problem solved. Thank so much.
