When Task Manager can't force a program to close, what then please?

    Hello

I have been trying to open Picasa for a couple of hours now - it no longer responds when double-clicked in 'my programs', or if I right click and choose 'open'
No other programs are affected and everything else works as it should.

By Googling I've discovered that the program is corrupted somehow and needs to be reinstalled. I've tried to uninstall it by using the product's own uninstaller and through 'Revo' but I receive messages telling me that the program is running and needs to be closed first. I then went to the good old task manager to force Picasa to close and it won't close through there either!

Are there any other methods I can try to close a program (Picasa3.exe *32)

I need to sort this pretty quickly please.
    Many thanks on advance

    Hello Tara,

Restarting the PC will also kill it if it's not set to run at startup. :)

    Hi

I'd rather not restart if I can help it though.
Can you think of any other options please? (would a command prompt work?)

    Tara,

You could also try opening an elevated command prompt, and using the command below to try and kill it. It essential does the same as using "End Task" in Task Manager, but while elevated.

    Taskkill

    Taskkill /IM Picasa3.exe /F

If that's the case, the fastest fix is a reboot. That will kill the program and allow you to uninstall and reinstall.

Just suggesting the easy/usual approaches first before installing 3rd party programs. That's all.

I have them installed as a matter of course.
There is also IOBit Unlocker portable. No need to install.

Thanks Guys - I had to reboot in the end.

I did download Task Killer just after posting my query, and Picasa still wouldn't close. All's well now though, as I've done a clean install of Picasa :)

    Thanks again!

Sorry you had to restart, but glad you killed it.
