How Do I Intall Hosts File?

    Hello,

I recently purchased a new desktop (Windows 7, IE10, 32 Bit). I downloaded the Hosts File (in zip) software to my desktop. How do I implement it?

    Thanks,

    Hi Anne,

Where did you download a HOSTS file from and why?
Windows has a "default" HOSTS file, so you are trying to replace that file for some reason.
If some program you are using needs a modified HOSTS file, they should have instructions how to use it.

The only time I've used a downloaded HOSTS file on a Home PC was for using/testing a special "security" HOSTS file that prevented access to known malicious sites.
The vendor for the HOSTS file included the installation utility, and documented how to use it and what the HOSTS file does.

Cool pic - your cat got the mouse :)

    Hello DW7,

I'm glad you like my cat. Show me a good mouser and I'll show you a cat with bad breath. Badda bing (mischievous grin)

I put Hosts on my Windows 7 laptop and it works beautiful. I deleted the Hosts file from this desktop machine. If you will be so kind as to give me a list of instructions to carry out to rid myself of ALL banners and popups I will be extremely grateful.
